Licenses, Accreditation & Testing
U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
On November 10, 2011, NCBP received a biologics license from the FDA for HEMACORD™, a stem cell product derived from umbilical cord blood for use in stem cell transplants. The FDA approval of HEMACORD™ was the first of its kind for a human stem cell product, and reflects the organization’s ability to meet the highest quality standards in the industry for manufacturing and distribution of cord blood products to transplant centers throughout the U.S. and around the world. We are also an FDA-registered tissue bank.
Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy
Founded in 1994, FACT is a non-profit, voluntary organization that develops, maintains and updates comprehensive standards for all aspects of hematopoietic stem cell collection, processing and transplantation. FACT inspects cord blood banks and offers accreditation to those that meet its standards. NYBC's National Cord Blood Program was the first cord blood bank to receive this accreditation, which it has maintained continuously since 2003.
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
HRSA has awarded annual cord blood collection contracts to NCBP beginning in 2008.
